It has been a long but fast three weeks. Now that week four is here everyone is working feverishly to finish all their assignment. Parents, I just wanted to thank you for sharing your precious children with us. You have done a fantastic job of raising them. They have been a wonderful group of young people to work with. My wishes for their continued success goes with each and everyone of them.

The students spent the morning traveling around a true barrier island. At six miles long and about three fourths a mile wide at it's largest point, Dauphin Island is a great barrier island to study.
The students take a quick group shot while visiting the Indian mounds.

We got to spend Thursday and Friday in Panama City snorkling on the rock jettys and in the sea grass beds. We saw some really cool stuff, including sea urchins! My favorite were the little bleenies that would swim over the rocks. They were so cute with little red mohawks!! It was a great trip!

At twenty miles offshore and one hundred feet deep some unusual species can be found. This is a picture of a shame face crab that our intrepid students got to witness close up and personal. It was a fascinating experience to see such unique creatures in person.

Our days in Panama City were fantastic! We got to snorkel the reefs and the seagrass beds! :) We saw so many different types of fish. Also, there were comb jellies as big as our fists, which was a highlight for a few of us! Pictured here was snorkel group orange, from left to right: Quinn Nash, Jan Kathryn Hutchins, Sarah Bayless, Emma Everson, Connor Nash, and Kayleigh-Marie Ellison. It was a great adventure and I loved sharing it with these wonderful people! <3

Outside of our set journey of snorkeling the reefs and grass beds we got to enjoy a few minutes jsut hanging out in the Gulf! In this picture we are playing Chicken, the common game played in pools. It is much more difficult in the ocean! Pictured is Cooper Yoo on top of Quinn Nash and Jan Kathryn Hutchins (JK) on top of Connor Nash. THe winner was never determined. Tough battle for both! We also attempted to play Duck-Duck-Goose, yet it was an epic fail! What a great day in paradise! :)

Today might be the official holiday but us DISL kids celebrated last night. We went to watch fireworks on the beach and had the best time ever. There was football, marshmallows and some shaved ice! We even had watermelon and ribs today after our invertebrate collection in the marsh. Although I usually spend the 4th at home I realized that, even though I'm on the island, I'm still celebrating with my family. Happy Independence Day!

Last night we went shopping and the movies! :) Pictured are Quinn and Connor (the twins), Philip, Emma, Cooper, and Kyle. We had an hour to kill and we decided to make a remix of Teach Me How to Dougie.. It is now Teach Me How to Nerdy! :)

Saturday was .. well not sure how to put it. We had 2 tests in the morning and we started invertebrates in the afternoon. After all of this the real fun began. We set out to go shopping. All 30 of us were going crazy, and they made me dress up a little. (which is hard for me to do sometimes.. :)) We had from around 6:30 to 9p.m. to shop, and we filled every minute of it with adventure!! At 9 we had to meet back together and we left for the MOVIES!! :) We all saw different movies.

During the dissection students found the female shark to be with young. The picture shows several students holding some of the baby sharks.
